Hi everybody! It sure has been awhile since I’ve posted anything about The Shack, our little Poconos getaway.

The Shack
Everybody has been asking me about updates on our progress and what we’ve been doing up there…To be perfectly honest, we’ve been super busy doing not-so-fun stuff, like siding repairs and inside trim work, etc.

We tore off much of the siding on this corner of the sunroom and chimney at The Shack. It had some rot and other damage that needed to be remedied. This took up a lot of time, effort and funds, but we’re happy with the results! Maintenance is a constant battle with a vacation home.
Aaaaand we’ve been taking some time and actually enjoying our little house and the lovely neighborhood it’s in. The southern Pocono Mountains are such a great place to vacation, which was one of the primary points of this endeavor to begin with.
I’m not sure I’ve ever shared much with you about the wonderful little community we have up there. It’s a casual little ‘resort community’ with lots of great amenities called Bear Creek Lakes.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not super fancy, like a country club community, but it has a terrific man-made lake, swim and tennis, and a community center for the residents to use and enjoy (membership badges are always required). There are fun planned activities for neighborhood residents throughout the year, and many homeowners have golf carts in which they toodle around the neighborhood. Lots of people in the neighborhood enjoy visiting the boat dock at sunset in the summer months, and it’s a great way to see everyone while enjoying the view. Such fun!
So here are a few images of fun mountain-ey stuff we do at The Shack, just to give you a taste of the good life in the Southern Poconos. I didn’t include any winter pictures, because honestly, while there’s a ton of awesome stuff to do in the Poconos during the winter-time, I’m more than ready for the warmer spring and summer weather. Bring on those green leaves and sunshine!!

We have a comfy little hammock just off the back deck at The Shack.

It’s true bliss to lay on the hammock and look up at the trees swaying in the breeze.

We love simply taking walks in the neighborhood during all types of weather. This photo was taken on a foggy day in the southern Poconos. So misty and moody!

Taking one of our boats or kayaks out on the neighborhood lake is always a good time. There’s just something about being out on the water that is so relaxing! The lake is stocked with lots of fish, so that’s another great pass-time to enjoy, along with swimming from the 2 sandy beaches on the lake.

You can see our little golf cart is parked in the driveway, just off the front porch at The Shack and is ready for a ride down to the lake.

A couple of kayakers enjoying the sunset views from the water on Bear Creek Lake.

Just being in the woods gives me a calm feeling. This photo was taken early in the morning in our driveway at The Shack. Obviously, the leaves have started coming down, so this photo was taken in early fall.

We love to watch the birds in our woodland garden at The Shack. For several summers now, we’ve had obvious Hummingbird nests on our property. I love this photo of a Momma Hummingbird sitting on her nest at The Shack.

A hummingbird coming in for a landing on her nest at The Shack.

There are lots of great birds in the southern Poconos, but I especially love seeing the wild turkey when they visit our yard.

There are often large flocks of turkeys in our neighborhood at The Shack. This group was crossing our street one afternoon. Why did the turkey cross the road? This photo kind of reminds me of a Beatles album cover!

In the springtime, I love watching the baby deer follow their mothers around. This little faun was so sweet in our yard at The Shack!

And yes, we do get Black Bears in our neighborhood. This big guy got his photo taken just down the road a piece from The Shack, but we’ve actually had bear visitors on our own property too.

Cooking out on our fire-pit is another fun activity at The Shack. We love having friends over to enjoy the outdoors. Nothing tastes better than food cooked over an open camp-fire in the summertime!

After cooking the food on the fire-pit, we enjoy a meal on the large back deck which opens right off the kitchen at The Shack. Lots of good conversation and yummy food is enjoyed right here!

We also enjoy fishing on our lake. Here, a neighborhood child enjoys casting his line from the shore near the dam of Bear Creek Lake at sunset.

And here’s just one last image of the sun reflecting off the water at the lake. I’m so excited for this summer, and all the fun that goes with it!
So that’s all for now. I promise to try and post a little more often this summer. Robinson Interiors has been so busy lately, so my free time to post has been scarce. The good news is that I have a photo shoot of a recent project coming up next week and will have some lovely new photos to share with you all soon!
